We are writing out to let you know of a new service available for residents of Barnsley, please can you help us raise awareness of the support available.
During these difficult times, many residents are unfortunately facing uncertainty about their current and future employment. To address this and to support our residents, the employment and skills team have developed a simple, single point of contact to make it easier to speak to someone and access the free support available to residents who may have been:

  • Furloughed
  • Laid off/unemployed
  • Are at risk of redundancy
  • Looking to develop or grow skills
Barnsley Council’s Employment and Skills service has joined forces with Enterprising Barnsley and other employment support providers to make it easier for residents to access employment and skills support.
We have launched the Barnsley Employment Helpdesk providing a simple single point of contact for all residents who would like to speak to someone and access support.
We aim to respond to enquiries on the same day with a referral to support within 24 hours.
We’re on the end of a phone and can provide advice to determine eligibility for Universal Credit and how to start and prepare claims; job searching, getting a CV ready, support with applications and interviews and access to free training if residents want to develop your skills for a new role or promotion.
Please help us raise awareness of this support across your networks, we are ready to receive referrals. Just make sure people are happy for you to share their contact details and email them through or direct people to us on the details above.
We are working on getting a contact phone number and unfortunately in the meantime we are only able to receive enquiries through the email or webchat.  However, if individuals are not able to access email or webchat, if they can ask a friend, neighbour or professional to email us their phone number we will phone them straight back.
Our partners include: Barnsley Council Adult and Community Learning, Enterprising Barnsley, The Growth Company & Wiseability, The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, The Citizen’s Advice Service

School Closures & Home Learning

Every child was sent home with a home learning pack before the school closed. There is a link on the school website under ‘Parent Information’ that directs you to planned weekly activities for your children. We have also added some websites to the school website and we will keep adding to these. Children have access to Purple Mash and Numbots. Lots of children have also been joining in with PE with Joe Wicks, RWI lessons, story time with David Walliams amongst other things which we keep sharing on our Twitter page/website. It has been so lovely to see some of the learning that your children have been doing too. Please keep sharing these on our Twitter and we would still like as many parents as possible to download the twitter app and follow our classes.

Please make sure that throughout all of this, you continue to have some fresh air/go on a daily walk and most importantly spend quality time with your family playing games, making things, watching films, singing, dancing, talking and laughing together whilst ensuring that you stay safe.

Arrangements for Free School Meals

We are supporting all of our families who are in receipt of Free School Meals by providing them with a packed lunch which is available from reception from 11.30am. All parents in receipt of ‘Free School Meals’ should have received a text message that they need to respond to. Vouchers will be sent by text on a weekly.basis.

Support for all our families

We appreciate that this is a challenging time for everyone, and there are families within our community who are particularly struggling whether this be for food or they just need someone to talk to. Please remember that we are still here to support each and everyone of you and we can still be contacted via the school email— Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can support you or your child in anyway.

Sandhill Primary School, which is part of the Every Child Matters Academy Trust, will as of 1st November 2019 re-broker across to the ECM Trust. Further information will be available from the school as we nearer that date as well as keeping you informed via the school website and letters home. Should you have any queries please don't hesitate in contacting the school direct
